3rd European AEE member meeting 1999
Brathay/ English Lake District

"Euroland - what unites us? New applications of experiential learning" 30th April-3rd May

That was an amazing experience! 28 people from 10 countries. Thanks to all who contributed!

The Third European Member Meeting took place at Brathay Hall in the English Lake District. A total of 28 people represented 10 countries from Alaska to Slovakia and Greece to Portugal. For more information on Brathay Hall check out www.brathay.org.uk.

The conference kicked off on Friday afternoon with a rowing on Lake Windermere which included a stop for proper English Tea, followed by activities centred around the question 'what unites us?' which proved to be a springboard for conversations throughout the conference.

This eclectic mixture of experiential educators with a multiplicity of interests and perspectives provided for an exciting mixture of workshops including:

In addition to the workshops it was also agreed that in the next 12 months (1999-2000) AEE Europe will be staging the following:

In addition to the structured workshops people also got the opportunity to climb on local crags, walk the mountains and of course experience the numerous facilities available at Brathay Hall. Sunday night was spent dancing away to 70's tunes before 'wrapping up' on Monday morning and a final photo to celebrate a refreshing, rejuvenating and rewarding weekend for all involved.

"You all know that you can expect interesting workshops - offering either practice or theory. And they were there - you missed them this year. But what is as important if not even more so? That you can spend perfect days in a company of all this creative people who charge you with their energy and you certainly charge them with yours. I am charged once again - and motivated to continue in what I am doing. You do not know what I am speaking about ? Come and check next year. We will be there."

Special thanks must go to Chris Batten and the Brathay Hall team for hosting a wonderful event.
