Post-conferences

So far, only one post-conference will be offered. If you want to organise a post-conference as well, please contact us, and we will help you to set it up.

Outdoor and philosophy

Hans Bolten and Jac Rongen regularly facilitate seminars in which outdoor activities are combined with Socratic dialogue. We will offer a programme like this as a post-conference.

Although this program should give you a pretty thorough insight into the workings of a Socratic dialogue, and also into the possibilities and traps of the combination of Socratic dialogue with outdoor activities, we would like to make clear that this post-conference is set up as a reflection seminar. This means that you will get the max out of it, if you come with a desire to reflect and practice philosophy (although in a funny way). Hans Bolten will do a workshop on Socratic questioning and other techniques during the conference. Those who are interested in that aspect, are advised to do that workshop.

Programme

During the programme we will do simple outdoor initiatives and activities. Instead of the regular reviewing sessions, we will have Socratic dialogues of between 1 and 2 hours. During the whole program, you will be involved in an alternation of physical activities and reflection.

The group will partly consist of people from the conference, and partly of other people. We have chosen for this set-up, since the theme that we would like to reflect upon, is strangeness or the stranger. This is also the theme of the Dutch Month of Philosophy, a manifestation which immediately precedes our conference.

Place

Because the end of a conference usually seems to leave people in a state of saying goodbye, rather than entering a new adventure, we have chosen to organise this post-conference at a different venue than the conference: the International School of Philosophy in Leusden. We will cover the distance between the two (some 45 kilometres) by bike. For those who are less interested in finding out why this is the favourite Dutch type of transport, we will provide transport by car.
