Scholarship Fund
What is the purpose of the
Scholarship Fund?
The Scholarship Fund
was established at the EEEurope Conference in Caramulo, Portugal, in
2002.
Its purpose is to encourage the participation of people living or
working in Europe who are involved in
experiential education but who cannot afford to
attend the annual conference and who would benefit by taking part.
How
does the Scholarship Fund work?
- The whole process is based on trust.
- The Fund is financed out of the conference fees paid by
other
participants.
- The Fund can award scholarships of up to 80% of the main conference fee.
- Applicants should be willing and able 'to share and
contribute' in English.
- Applicants are asked to contribute
by offering a workshop. Alternative ways of contributing are listed below.
- Applicants should apply by email following the guidelines below.
- Applications will be read by a
committee of 8 people who have taken part in previous
EEEurope conferences.
- Decisions are usually made within two weeks.
How
do I apply for a scholarship?
If you are involved
in experiential education and you work or live
in Europe you are entitled to apply.
You should apply by email with your response to these questions and
requests:

previous years? If so, please state which years.

- How do you expect to benefit from taking part in this
conference?
- What are your plans for the future in this field?
Send your
application by email to info#a#eeeurope.org (replacing #a# with @)
Unless you are
asked for more information, a decision will be made within two weeks of
your application.
When should I apply for a
scholarship?
The deadline for
applications for scholarships is March 31st 2008. You are encouraged to
apply well before this
deadline, especially if an early decision would allow you
to benefit from low cost fares for travelling to and from the event.
Early application will also give you a better
chance of being awarded a scholarship.
More
about the Scholarship Fund - mainly for organisers:
- Record
keeping: The organiser of the conference will keep:
a file of all
applications; a record of comments made by the the
committee; a record of the way that decisions have been made.
- Confidentiality: All applications and communications about
them will be treated as strictly confidential. All such files will
be deleted one month after the conference.
- Decision making:
The organiser will receive comments from at least 4 of the 8 people serving on
the committee before deciding whether to award a scholarship and for
what amount (up to 80% of the total fee).
- Committee rotation: At
each annual conference, 2 volunteers will be sought to serve on the
Fund committee and 2 people on the committe will be asked to retire, maintaining a total of 8 people serving on the committee.
- Continuity:
Any
money remaining in the Scholarship Fund will be
carried over into the Scholarship Fund for the following year. The
organiser of the following year's conference will ring fence the
amount remaining in the Scholarship Fund and will adjust the
participant fee to ensure that the Fund does not grow beyond the
amount that would be needed to support 10% of participants with 80%
funding.
- Transparency: Details of individual awards remain confidential, but the
amount carried over to the following year's Scholarship Fund should be
published on this website (together with amount being carried forward
in the Reserve Fund).
- Review:
Arrangements for the Scholarship Fund should be reviewed every three
years. Any proposed changes should be presented for approval to a
general meeting at the conference. This version was created following a
review at EEEurope 2007 at
Aberfoyle, Scotland. This is a provisional version awaiting approval.
